Hello. I follow this project long time ago, but till now didnt register to forum. First i want to thank devland for this excellent work. And about Devana...I think it need some remakes. Also some kind of template system will be good. Maybe best way to improve "scripting design" is using Ajax. Here is nice example for Ajax tooltip that can be easly implemented. Ajax ToolTipInfo and DownloadAjax Dynamic List (can be used for searching users) Ajax Add- This can be used for sending units or something. That will be nice if Ajax can be implemented for Maps.

I am now looking for developers to help out with the development of Devana 2.0. This will be, as discussed before, a total remake using OOP code. New features will also be included, others will be modified. The initial plan was that I do all the work alone, but as the to-do list grew larger and my free time grew thinner, that is no longer possible. If any of you wish to help out, please make one post here expressing that wish, along with a short resume detailing your skills, experience, ... [so that we each know what the other guy is good at] There will be a to-do list posted here in a few days, so hopefully, tasks will be delegated then to those of you who wish to help. Remember, the more, the better. PHP and MySQL coders are wanted, as well as HTML and CSS designers. Heck, if you are handy with a pen at drawing, you can also help out. Also, from now on, this thread is the official Devana 2.0 place to talk, so try not to spam.
Closer to home with every step away from it.

hey guys, my name is Daniel. I am a php, css, mysql, javascript (jquery) develope from germany. I have advanced php skills. The most time I code with the php framework codeigniter. But I am a very bad designer^^ I have already developed some scripts and saled them. I want to develop on devana, because I love to code with other people and I think Devana is one of the best opensource browsergames on the web.
Greetings Daniel

This is a futile question. Coding an engine like this takes time and we will prolly get an Alpha version then open beta before the actual game comes out. It will take as much time as it takes to code in Devana style (less to no bugs from the beginning). Or would you rather have things speed up and have a code like XNova with so many bugs you can't count them all? Keep visiting the forum as frequently as you can for updates (this is my advice). Nick

Hi, Im from Brazil and I have 3 years of experience with php and 2 years of OOP.
I have some experience with Smarty and Zend Framework and I would really like to join the team.
I just have one question, how are you planning to manage the development? SVN?

Let me say something. As I studied in the school the procedural and OO programming, everything was understandable. I am not a good programmer. However i worked by a financial institute 1,5 years as programmer, mainly in PHP, but also in Perl and some Javascript, JSP and Java also. That was a couple of years ago. We had a portal written in PHP with procedural programming. Than a smart programmer convinced most of the company leaders that we should make everything in OO because that is the future and is more modern, and of course it should be java. When he was speaking about OO it was sounding like a dream. But the reality was different. We worked a half of year on the new portal with OO but before it was ready the company got bancrupcy. But as I remember working with OO under Java was more frustrating and by far not so efficient like working procedural with PHP. May be that was not the main reason that the company got bankrupcy but I am shure that had also small contribution. If we change to OO then shurely less people will try to make some changes in the code. And I am not shure if the project will continue so far that we will got the advantages of the OO Programming. I see also like fox that a reasonable template system would bring more for the development by the actual complexity of the source code. Only if the limits are reached with a template system should be considered porting the source toward OO.

Maybe we can have a poll for this question. I would choose to remain on PHP. If you choose to change the game maybe implement an easy way of editing things like a CMS. Thanks to many forum users we can say this game has evolved pretty much. PS: devland tell us when and how we can help.

Hello again. I'm happy to see that some of you decided to help out with devana 2.0. As I said before, the development will be based on delegations, meaning that tasks will be posted, and they will be delegated those who wish to code. It will basically be a volunteering system. Now, before any of the coding starts, I want to code some of the core classes & features of the game, to serve as examples. Now, I'm quite busy at the moment. But fear not, hopefully we'll start by this Summer.
Closer to home with every step away from it.
