Due to excessive spam bot posts the forum is going offline.
I am very sorry for those who used the board for mods, but I just cannot keep cleaning up after people who just do not appreciate such mediums. It's a real shame, as phpBB is really good.
The forum will reemerge once devana 2.0 nears completion and it will use code written by myself since that is the only way to prevent spam bot abuse.

Did you try some anti-spam mods? There are plenty and some work really well.

Yes, I did try lots of anti-spam mods. All of them are of poor efficiency.

Hi! Anti-spam mods can be effective, but they didn’t help, if spam bots already register hundreds of accounts. In my case, i use anti-spam mods, i change registration form (“please, remove tick from this checkbox if you are human, not robot =)”), but only than i see (and delete) about 3 or 4 hundreds of bot accounts, spam stopped. Now, mods disabled, but i dont have any spam on forum – changed registration form is pretty good ) Its a PHPBB3 forum. May be it can help you?

How can a bot bypass or pass a human captcha question?
Using the captcha before post could solve the problem if the bots already registered lots of accounts, inconvenient but probably effective.
Sad to see the forum offline. =(

They can pass the Captcha with optical character recognition (OCR). Every modern spambot has an OCR included so old-style captchas are just nothing more than an annoyance, only very garbled captchas can keep the bots away, but solving them can be too difficult for humans as well.
The captcha this blog uses is totally useless against modern bots.

Just use MyBB with akismet or stopforumspam.com, best forum software out there ! ( you always made me sad knowing you used phpbb )
Also, mybb has better navigation which means you dont need 5 pages to ban a user.

I doubt that a bot could answer a logical human question captcha, unless it uses some kind of an bypass which is more like of a an hackzor then bypass.
I would go with phpBB,
vbulletin from what I think needs to be payed and is good for bigger good sites and updates is a must have.
Otherwise try MyBB, super extremely lightweightt and fast.

So far phpbb is best free forum solution. I say this from the perspective of developer. Good anti-spam protection can help (not only captcha is anti-spam protection).
If you already have lots of registered bots it is best that deactivate all user accounts and request email confirmation.

Sorry to see you have such a problem. I use smf with a anti bot mod and it works fine. Also you could try SimplePress for WP blog.

Don’t program a forum, focus on Devana 2.0 please. For the forum I suggest MyBB: it’s free, it has got a lot of mods/plugin/themes and a lot of working antispam.

All devana 2.0 work has been posted here except for some new stuff I will be posting when I’ll get the time to complete the next milestone (a functional economy that will allow you to create buildings and produce resources).
The beta ETA is sometime this summer. I will start working intensively on devana again after I get my engineering degree this July.

There will be ratios for all factions to control how much things cost and how much they take to build. By default these ratios will be 1.
This will allow for “speed servers” and the like to be created by simply editing these ratios.
