tweaking the core
It's been a while since the last update. Busy have I been.
1. I've added a database class in the form of a wrapper that makes the whole db thing abstract. Along with the template system this now makes for a simple MVC model.

2. I've moved the game configuration variables from the database to a php file.
It currently isn't finished, since I have to add all the units, buildings in it, but it has a few entries added to illustrate it's functionality.
The labels have also been moved to a php file instead of being stored in the database.

3. I've worked on the database structure a bit as well. See the attached zip file for the current structure.

Great job man, every time i see a new post in the blog i get excited. Can hardly wait till something usable comes out
Rock on.

Nu stiu cand o sa fie gata. Imagini poti vedea in post-urile anterioare.
Yup, I also get excited when I think about all the various game types you’ll be able to create using this core.

hmm nicio o imagine cu vreo cladire?
January 27th, 2011 - 12:47
“Imaginile cu cladiri” sunt triviale in momentul de fata. Ideea de baza e ca pot fi schimbate usor si accentul e pus aici pe functionalitate, nu pe design.
Ca idee probabil vor fi dintre cele vechi (vezi v1.6.6) sau ceva asemanator.

I really find what you do amazing! I am also thinking of creating an MMO browser based strategy game just like Travian or TribalWars, just with a lot more features and it would be much more realistic.
What I have encountered so far is the map size in the MySQL database. For example I want to make a map sized ~1000×1000 and you know… A million of entries are quite a lot. I am looking for a way to optimize the query size to avoid 3 seconds lag. Let me know if you could find a good solution

Select from the db only what you need to display. See the current devana 2.0 preliminary files that I have posted for a working map system.

Hi, i tested the current files, and it seems very solid, good job!
I only have one suggestion, like in the past there is only 1 thing that sets devana a bit back looking at other games. The map feels very “stiff” to navigate if you know what i mean. If i may suggest, if the arrows moved 3 blocks instead of 1, and with a “sliding motion” and if the map was “draggable” it would be a HUGE improvement.
Also, will using a 2d map be a bit easyer in Devana 2.0, unlike 1.6.6 were we had to use custom libraries? The isometric looks better but its less functional then a standard 2d map; its one of the reasons chinese browser games fail
Cant wait for the “final core tweak” you mentioned in the other thread.
Good job till now!

sir… Y U NO INDENT?!
April 7th, 2011 - 15:21
@Fez: I will make the map bigger and I’ll make it so that it slides 3 sectors instead of 1.
I want to keep things simple, hence no animation.
@Blaine0002: What indent?

my thoughts exactly
tabs are ftw.

Sounds good nonetheless, will be waiting anxiously for update
Good work!

For when they think they will be finished v2.0
Very good job, if it could be, I would like to get in touch with you even though I speak a different language to ask several things, preferably via; Chat before email.
Thanks for your work and excuse my bad English.
Have if you could make the menu simpler Peacebuilding buildings and farm buildings also more simple, I see it from that point of view too … difficult to handle for users.

You should change the database driver from MySQL to MySQLi

Looking good!
